Massachusetts Premier League
The following information is not being sent directly to the coaches. Please make sure that your teams are aware of their responsibility to be available for the following dates. In particular, a Division 2 team which advances to the State Cup finals will affect the Promotion/Relegation games and the identity of the participants. Any team finishing 5th and below in Division 1 must have this information and be prepared to play. Complete rules for Promotion/Relegation games are found on pages 7 and 22 of the Maple Book.
As approved by last years AGM, the tiebreaker, if teams are tied on points and aggregate goals, will be a regular overtime followed by penalty kicks. "Away" goals will no longer be used as a tiebreaker.
Please make sure I have the correct phone numbers for your coaches. I may have to contact them at the last minute to get their players together.
The following information applies to the U-11 tournament, Promotion/Relegation games, and the U-16 playdowns.
All teams must check-in ½ hour before game time, dressed and ready to play. You must have a roster with uniform numbers on it and birth certificates with you. Check at the tent for any changes in field assignments.
Any protest must be filed in writing, accompanied by a non-refundable $150 fee in cash, within ½ hour of the end of the game. If at the end of the game you are considering a protest, it is your obligation to notify the coach of the opposing team of this possibility, so that his team does not leave the field complex. If a protest is upheld, scheduling of the replay will be at the complete discretion of the Commission member at the field. No objection to a replay time will be heard for any reason whatever. Judgment calls by the referee may not be protested.
Schedule & Directions
Please refer to the schedule grid for game times. Field assignments will be made at the tent. Directions to Smith & Wesson fields are in the Maple Book. There is no parking allowed on the access roads. No pets are allowed on the grounds.
K.C. Andre Cup (U-11 Tournament)
The tournament will be held according the schedule in the book. Seeding for the tournament will be posted on the Web site following the last season games.
Pictures will be taken at the tournament for all the teams. These pictures are used on the champion and finalists plaques and are available for sale if your parents would like one. Please make sure you arrive ½ hour early to allow time for the picture.

Promotion/Relegation Games - Division 1 v Division 2
ALL TEAMS NOW HAVE THE OPTION TO DECIDE IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO COUNT THEIR QUALIFICATION GAME AT STATE CUPS AS THE FIRST PROMOTION/RELEGATION GAME IF THEY ARE IN THAT POSITION AT THE END OF THE SEASON. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO EXERCISE THIS OPTION YOU MUST CONTACT ME. OTHERWISE, ONLY ONE ADDITIONAL GAME WILL BE SCHEDULED.
If a 2nd division team is in the semi-finals of State Cups we will not be able to determine the teams for Promotion/Relegation until the semi-finals are over. In that case, the games will be the following day at a field to be determined.
Sunday, June 18th - U12-U14
|Field 13||Field 14|
Saturday, June 24th - U15-17
|Field 6||Field 7||Field 8||Field 9||Field 10|
If your team is involved in the semi-finals of State Cups, you are not expected to play the Playdown or Promotion/Relegation game on the same day.
The final games for U-16 and U-17 will be held Sunday at CRU Park in Hopkinton, as well as any other Promotion/Relegation games which could not be held on Saturday.

SPECIAL NOTE: Because the South Shore United Blazers Regional Champions were playing outside MAPLE in the Region One Premier League their presence at State Cups affects the seeding and consequently also the promotion/relegation games. All Clubs with teams in BU16 should have received an explanation of the procedure from John Burrill, the State Cups Commissioner. If you have not seen it please call me and I will mail you a copy.
U17 Promotion/Relegation Procedure:
Division 1 will be: The 2 State Cup finalists
The next 3 highest finishing Division 1 who are not State Cup finalists
The 6th place team will not be automatically relegated, nor is the winner of Division 2 automatically promoted. Instead, the remaining Division 1 teams and the 1st and 2nd place Division 2 teams will play a round robin for the remaining Division 1 spot.
The last spot will be determined as follows:
The higher ranked Division 1 team will play the lower ranked Division 1 team or the highest Division 2 team
The lower ranked Division 1 team or higher ranked Division 2 team will play the lower Division 2 team
The lower Division 2 team will play the higher Division 1 team.
If these teams cannot be determined by Saturday the order of the games may be changed in order to finish them by Monday.
One further note: Last years AGM also voted to change the by-laws so that if the 8th place team becomes a State Cup finalist the 7th place team is not automatically relegated, but is included in the Promotion/Relegation games.
